Amazon is engaged in hair styling with the launch of the first salon of the online retail giant in London.
The Amazon Salon, announced Tuesday in a blog post, will be spread over two floors of a 1,500-square-meter building at Spitalfields in London’s East End and, according to the company, will offer traditional services, including cuts and hair dryers when opens to the public in the coming weeks.
But it will also showcase new products and the latest technology in the industry.
This includes augmented reality technology, which allows customers to experiment with virtual hair colors, as well as “point and learn” technology, where customers can point out the products on display and learn more about them on screen. To order an item, customers can scan a QR code that directs them to Amazon.co.uk. shopping page.

The news comes just weeks after Amazon chose London to open its first physical store outside the U.S., as it appears to capture a portion of consumer spending on groceries. It has since opened two more Amazon Fresh stores in the UK capital.

he said the London hairdresser will be “an experiential place where we will showcase new products and technology” and that there are no current plans to open other Amazon Salon sites.
“We designed this salon so that customers can come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” said John Boumphrey, director of Amazon’s UK country. “We want this unique place to bring us one step closer to customers and to be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”
Elena Lavagni, owner of the Neville Beauty and Hair Salon in London, will provide styling and hair care services. Amazon did not disclose pricing details.
