The suicide attack in Pakistan kills two children and injures Chinese citizens

SHANGHAI, Aug 21 (Reuters) – A suicide bombing in Pakistan against a caravan carrying Chinese personnel injured a Chinese citizen and killed two local children, the Chinese embassy in Islamabad reported on Saturday.

“China’s embassy in Pakistan strongly condemns this act of terrorism, expresses its sincere sympathies to the wounded of both countries and expresses its deep condolences to the innocent victims in Pakistan,” it said in a statement.

The attack took place on Friday on the Gwadar East Bay Express highway project in Baluchistan, the embassy reported. Several injured people were treated at a local hospital, he said.

The embassy called on the Pakistani authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

In July, a suicide bomber attacked a bus carrying workers to a dam construction site in northern Pakistan and killed 13 people, including nine Chinese nationals.

Pakistan’s foreign minister said Pakistani Taliban militants known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were behind the attack. The TTP told Reuters he was not involved. Read more.

“China strongly opposes all forces using terrorism as a means to obtain geopolitical benefits,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement in response to last month’s attack.

A Chinese newspaper run by the Communist Party official, Daily Daily, described the bus explosion as the most serious attack on Chinese citizens in recent years.
