I think we’ve all had at least one game in our lives that consumes you every waking hour. A game that stays awake until late, then wakes up early and plays a little more. For James McAvoy in 2006, this game was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Things got so bad that the actor had to record the record to break free from Bethesda’s open role-playing game.
James McAvoy is probably best known for his role as a young teacher Xavier in the X-Men movies. His last role is in a video game, 12 minutes, starring alongside William Dafoe and Daisy Ridley. McAvoy sat with him Forbes talk about 12 minutes and its past of games and revealed that at one point in 2006 he was so fascinated Oblit which began to cause him serious problems during the filming of Becoming Jane.
“I have to go to bed at 10 at night, because every morning I get up at 6 in the morning,” McAvoy said. “And I have a lot of lines and all that. And I’m only awake until four in the morning while playing Oblit“.
Finally, McAvoy’s long gameplay sessions during filming were so bad that he started playing at eight in the evening and didn’t stop until 5:35 in the morning. It was at this point that McAvoy realized he had to do something drastic. So he took the disk out of the Xbox 360, lit the stove, and destroyed it Oblit.
“I just put the record on it,” McAvoy described, “and I saw it a little bit, like, singing and melting a little bit. And I was like, ‘Well, we’re done, we’re done, never again!’ ”

After that, the actor stayed away from the games for a decade. But in the end, his love of football and his young son combined make him give FIFA an attempt. He quickly he became a big fan. Since then he and his friends have started playing War zone during the pandemic as a way to stay connected and have fun even apart through closures and quarantines.
“Now we talk every two or three nights, playing War zone and we talk about life, love, everything, while twelve-year-olds from other countries are absolutely annihilated. “
