Most everyone remembers the famous “red ring of death“A malfunction of the Xbox 360 hardware in which the console’s power ring would turn red and the console would just … stop working. The problem was finally fixed after Microsoft dropped 1 billion But now there is another flaw that affects today’s Xbox consoles: the so-called “black screen of death.”

Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either. Maybe “console purgatory”?

“Black screen of death” is at least an appropriate term, however, as it describes the problem to the letter. Players who have focused on it activate their Xbox One consoles, only to see a completely blank screen. It seems that the timeless trick of “turning it off and on again” does nothing. Nor does it “disconnect it and plug it back in.”

The black screen of death seems to have greatly affected those who have been registered as Xbox Insider, a participation program that allows players to test the upcoming console features before launching them on a large scale. Sometimes there are mistakes, but the first crack in these things is often a blessing. For example, Xbox Insiders received early access to the sick game suspension functionality, which significantly speeds up downloads on Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. New updates are released periodically, sometimes every few days, and it seems that this wave of black screens is a bug related to one of these recent patches.

In a blog post on August 20th Microsoft described the release notes for beta-level members (Xbox Insider), which has solved the problem of the black screen of death. Microsoft said the same thing to a blog post from August 17th, too. (This note is not present in Microsoft Published on 13 August about Xbox Insider beta-level updates, which suggests it’s the patch that caused it.)

Through social media, the players claim to continue to be there en masse. Players say that the factory reset of the console, while it’s totally bad to reconfigure everything, does the trick. Of course, this may seem like something that, you know, i need a screen for, but it is possible to complete it the process with a thumb unit.

The black screen of death of Xbox One is not entirely new. Last year and the year before, various Xbox One S owners he wrote in Microsoft support forums to describe a problem with the console. The control panel would say a game was damaged, so use itr would turn off the Xbox and restart it. Boom. Black screen of death. In this case, Microsoft recommended console power.

When asked about the black screen of the second coming of death, a Microsoft representative immediately had nothing to add.
