Anyone lucky enough to see it F9 in Imax earlier this year was seen tfirst material next year Jurassic World: Dominion. The film premieres 65 million years ago at a time when a certain mosquito gets trapped in amber and shapes everything that comes after. What came next was five films, and counting, and this sixth unites them all. At CinemaCon 2021, Universal Pictures finished its panel full of new images from the upcoming film, which premieres on June 10, 2022. Although that preview of IMAX gave a quick look at what is happening in the world of Jurassic post-Fallen Kingdom, this material was even deeper.
Now, this is where I offer some responsibility. The images probably took 90 seconds and it would be almost impossible to tell you everything that was going through my eyes. I’ll give you the highlights as best I can, but suffice it to say, it was cut quickly and I missed it a lot. My apologies.
The first image was of a pair of brachiosaurs driven by a pile of vehicles in what looked like a snow-covered quarry. Later, still in that snowy environment, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) rides a motorcycle trying to chase some dinosaurs. There are scenes of Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) trapped in a cage reminiscent of the beginning of the first film. Pour water into it. There was also a shot of her in a very bright and very sunny lab. The mosasaur of Jurassic World jump out of the water to eat something. A dilofosaur screams and unleashes his mane. The T-Rex looks furious, of course. We see someone holding a flare. A triceratops crashing into a Jeep. Taken from Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and then taken from all the stars in the two series watching something, reminiscent of the lighting of the first T-Rex attack by the · Film.
Most interesting, however, were some scenes of what looked like a European city. We see Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) jumping between buildings as she is chased by what looked like a velociraptor. A scene of Claire and Owen Grady jumping into an ancient tomb. And then a shot of Grady, back on a motorcycle, zipping through some cobbled streets, chasing what, again, was probably a kidnapper. Basically, they looked like action scenes from Indiana Jones, Jason Bourne and James Bond, but with dinosaurs.
Really, I wish I could have recorded it with my own eyes to give you all the details, but unfortunately, this is the best I can do. But there were more, many more, and I think we’ll see a lot of them in the coming months. As part of the video, the film’s director, Colin Trevorrow, said the film would answer the question: if there were dinosaurs among us, would we be safe? Of course, the answer is no. But hopefully, we’ll all be confident enough to see what awaits us for next summer, when Jurassic World Dominion arrives in theaters.
