Amazon plans to launch a series of large-screen TVs in the United States as early as this October, putting the company in direct competition with companies such as Samsung, LG and Sony, according to a new report.
The TVs will be equipped with Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant and will be between 55 and 75 inches in size, Insider reported Thursday afternoon. According to reports, they will be manufactured by Chinese manufacturer TCL.
According to the report, Amazon is also developing a standalone TV product that it is designing in-house.
Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.
It is unclear how the brand or television advertising would be advertised. Amazon already sells a TV in India that has the brand as part of its “Amazon Basics” line.
The 50-inch version of the Indian Amazon Basics TV retails for $ 506, while a larger 55-inch version costs $ 588.
Reviews of Amazon Indian TVs are quite mixed. While many users praise the product as a good deal, others have complained that their TV screens display Amazon Basics logos, in an apparent error, for 15 minutes before they can see anything.

Others have complained that the TV’s Alexa feature is malfunctioning or have reported receiving TVs that don’t work in the first place.
In another example of Amazon’s TV ambitions, the company partnered with Best Buy earlier this year to sell Toshiba and Insignia TVs that run on Amazon’s Fire TV software.
