JERUSALEM, Sept. 5 (Reuters) – Israel will present data this month on a wide-ranging launch of COVID-19 booster shots at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is weighing in on White House plans to initiate a boost in the United States.

Sharon Alroy-Preis, head of public health at the Israeli Ministry of Health, said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked the ministry to inform its advisers at a Sept. 17 meeting. .

The virtual session will feature a third booster boost from the Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) / BioNTech SE (22UAy.DE) vaccine and will be able to talk about others. Read more

“We have been asked to come and present our experience and data from Israel so that we can really help everyone learn,” Alroy-Preis told Israel Channel 12 television news.

One week ago Israel began offering a Pfizer COVID-19 booster to people up to 12 years old in a campaign that began in July among seniors. Israeli health officials said the boost has slowed the rise in serious illnesses caused by the Delta variant.

Officials have said that the effectiveness of the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine decreased five months after administration, making potentiation necessary. A third dose, they said, restored the protection level of the second shot.

So far 2.6 million people out of a population of 9.3 million have received three doses of the Pfizer vaccine in Israel.

U.S. President Joe Biden was expected to launch a campaign to administer 100 million booster shots on September 20th.
