The Government of Castilla-La Mancha, through the Ministry of Health, and the University of Castilla-La Mancha have signed an agreement by which the new University Hospital of Toledo will host the clinical teaching of medical studies from third in the academic year 2023/2024.
The Minister of Health, Jesús Fernández Sanz, and the Rector of the UCLM, Julián Garde, were accompanied during the signing of the agreement by Íñigo Cortázar, Director General of Human Resources of the ESESCAM, and by Alino Martínez, Vice-Rector of UCLM Health Sciences.
The signing of the agreement with the UCLM reinforces the actions that were initiated to articulate the implementation of the practices of all the devices associated with the University Hospital of Toledo, which, with the signing of this agreement, is incorporated into one hundred percent, both from an organizational point of view and from a legal point of view, in the gear of health training in the region, which means reaching a momentous point when renewing the training strategy in the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha.
Also, in the new agreement signed, highlights the creation of the new Joint Commission; the previous one was from 2017. In about a month a first meeting will take place.
The meeting has served to address various issues such as the start of the course, the relationship that the two institutions must have in terms of research, with the creation of the new Research Institute, the relationship with the National Hospital for Paraplegics and the new topics of the mixed commission, which has to do with students, the different campuses and with studies that have nothing to do with Health Sciences, but where students do internships in health centers.
Clinical teaching
In the course 1998/1999 the Faculty of Medicine of Albacete began its march and twelve years later, in the course 2010/2011, the one of Ciudad Real. The two Faculties organized on an innovative teaching model of small groups, focused on self-learning, with five teaching phases structured in an integrated way in objective modules.
The entire model is centralized and pivots into a Medical Education Unit, the most distinctive sign of this model, which has proven so successful.
Since the introduction of medical studies at the UCLM, there has been a desire to take advantage of Toledo’s healthcare resources.
This pathway began in the 2016-2107 academic year with the teaching of part of the sixth year rotary at the Hospital Virgen de la Salud and the National Hospital for Paraplegics.
Until the beginning of the teaching in the course 2023/2024, will work in the adaptation of the spaces; training of future teachers who will be incorporated year by year; establishment of the Medical Education Unit and necessary administration and services staff; increase in the teaching of rotating and management of Final Degree Projects.
Thus, the clinical teaching of Medicine from third to sixth at the UCLM will depend on two Faculties of Medicine-three University Hospitals which will result in a better student-teacher-patient ratio and, therefore, in a higher quality training.
