LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 (Reuters) – The explosive American television interview of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan with Oprah Winfrey lost at the Emmy Awards on Sunday for a series on Italian food and culture.

Winfrey’s two-hour sit-in with Harry and Meghan in March sparked shock waves through the British monarchy when Meghan accused the British royal family of worrying about the dark skin of the couple’s first child and he said the stress of life as the newly married royal had pushed him to the brink of suicide.

It was the first television interview granted by the couple after their decision in early 2020 to leave their royal roles and move to California and was seen by more than 49 million people worldwide during the first three days, CBS said.

Winfrey and his team were nominated for an Emmy, the highest honor on American television, in the category of best-selling nonfiction series, but were surpassed by the “Searching for Italy” travel and food program. actor Stanley Tucci.

Neither Harry nor Meghan attended Sunday’s understated creative arts ceremony, which precedes the main Emmy Awards show next week.
