WINTER HAVEN, Florida – A Florida woman is grieving the loss of her husband after being hospitalized with COVID-19, only to return home to find her husband dead from COVID-19 complications.

“It was like getting into a horror scene. It’s been horrible,” said Lisa Steadman of Winter Haven.
Steadman, 58, believed the worst happened. She and her husband, Ron, were diagnosed with COVID-19 in early August.
“I was in the hospital for eight days. I talked to him every day,” Steadman said.
Ron never ended up in the hospital, but went home caring for the dogs while Lisa hadn’t been.
“On Sunday, when I spoke to him, he told me that his phone was working, that he would have no charge. I said, ‘OK.’ I called the police, the Winter Haven police department said [asked if they] they could do a welfare check, “Steadman said.” They went out, they did a welfare check [and] talked to him. He was out of the dogs. They said, “He has a cold,” but it was okay not to get ready to die or something. “
But between that time and when Steadman was released from the hospital Wednesday evening, things changed for the worse.
“I could hear our puppies. They were all together in the bedroom, the dogs and him. I rolled up to the bedroom door. I opened the door and he was in bed, he died,” Steadman said.
Ron died of COVID-related complications.
“He always wore the mask. He always used hand sanitizer,” Steadman said.
He said neither had received a vaccine against COVID-19, not because they were against it, but because they wanted to wait.

Now, after talking to your doctor and treating the virus first hand, your mind has changed.
“I said when I get better, because I can’t catch it until the end of September, I’d be in charge of shooting,” Steadman said.
Now, he has a message for everyone.
“Remember that tomorrow you are not promised, so you better make sure you tell your loved ones that you love them,” Steadman said.
