“It was like getting into a horror scene. It’s been horrible,” Winter Haven resident Lisa Steadman told WFTS on ABC Action News.
The 58-year-old believed she was going through the worst.
She and her husband, Ron, were diagnosed with COVID-19 in early August.
“I was in the hospital for eight days. I talked to him every day,” he said.
Ron never ended up in the hospital. Instead, he was at home caring for the dogs, while his wife had left.

“On Sunday, when I spoke to him, he told me that his phone was working, that he would have no charge. I said ‘okay’, because it came on Monday, I couldn’t find out. So I called police, from the Winter Haven Police Department, said they could do a welfare check. They went out, did a welfare check, talked to him, was out of the dogs, said, “he has a cold.” but it was okay as far as not fixing the death or something. “
But between that time and when Steadman was released from the hospital Wednesday evening, things changed for the worse.
“I could hear our puppies. They were all together in the bedroom, the dogs and him. I rolled up to the bedroom door, I opened the door and he was in bed, he died,” he said.
Ron died of COVID-related complications.
“I always wore the mask, I always used hand sanitizer,” he said.
He said neither of them had received the vaccine against COVID-19, not because they were against it, but because they wanted to wait.
Now, after talking to your doctor and treating the virus first hand, your mind has changed.
“I said that when I get better, because I can’t take it until the end of September, he would give me the photo,” he said.
