It seems that all peoples have them. Those golden neighborhoods with massively impossible houses, a range of elegant cars, giant courtyards, and so on. But how? How do so many people have so much money?
That’s the question Aaron Vankampen, a freelance locator from Toronto, has been asking homeowners for months. The responses he has received have provided a lot of fodder for his TikTok account, which has exploded significantly since he published the first part in early November:
“I used to work as both a location explorer and a bartender,” Vankampen told MarketWatch. “The pandemic hit and I had a lot of free time. I was looking for something to do with that time.
So he let his curiosity be his guide and started wandering around the upscale local neighborhoods and asking questions. His most viewed TikTok, which includes lawyers, Teslas TSLA,
and has been clicked on an amazing “dream worker” 35 million times:
Vankampen’s rise to TikTok fame has been meteoric, with more than a million followers in less than two months. As their reactions suggest, the interviewees were generally friendly and sympathetic when approached by the door-to-door TikToker.
However, he said the strange problem has arisen. For example, he was evicted from a property by a guard dog. “I’ve learned and I’ll never approach a house with a‘ watch out for the dog ’sign now,” he said.
In the next phase of its social media plans, Vankampen wants to boost its reach beyond Toronto once travel restrictions ease and visit homes around the world. Would it have the same warm welcome in, say, New York City as in Canada? We might know someday.
Meanwhile, he is also launching his YouTube channel, with the intention of expanding the interviews without TikTok’s time limitations and ideally making money in the process.
“My plan is to continue to be inspiring, if I can find a way to earn revenue without stopping inspiring my followers, then this is what I will do,” he said.
