Three years ago, Alienware associated with legendary keyboard switchCherry manufacturer to create a binary mechanical switch experience for laptops only. Nbecause these switches are finally available to Alienware m15 R4 and m17 R4 laptops.
Unlike their previous MX Low Profile laptop switches, Cherry’s new MX Ultra Low Profile switches are significantly thinner, it measures only 3.5mm in height, allowing Alienware to retain the same chiclet-style keys it currently uses, but with the satisfying click that people should expect nice mechanical switches.
Cherry is new the switches are ready a third of the thickness of its previous MX Low Profile switches (11.9 mm), while incorporating a new design that was apparently inspired by the gull-wing doors of a Delorean.
Per by increasing the width of the switch, creating a new two-piece key structure and using new stainless steel components, Cherry can produce more stable and durable switches than before, with each switch that can withstand up to 15 million pulses. And even with a relatively deep 1.8mm keyboard layout (for a laptop), the thinness of Cherry’s new switches meant Alienware could add them as an option to its m15 R4 and m17 gaming laptops. R4 without altering the basic dimensions of the laptop.

And as expected Laptop keys for gaming, Alienware also includes AlienFX RGB lighting, 100% anti-ghost technology and n key change to make sure every keystroke is recorded correctly.
The only downside to Cherry’s new MX Ultra Low Profile switches is that they’ll get a $ 150 premium compared to the standard switches used in Alienware’s default laptop configurations. TThe hat isn’t an insignificant price drop, which means people may be forced to choose between a sleeker built-in portable keyboard or buy an external mechanical keyboard that they can use when playing at home.
That said, as someone who often prefers the wider keys and low-profile design you get with laptop keyboards, it’s very nice to see that there’s still room for improvement. And with the updated 11th-generation Intel processors and the new Nvidia 30 Series GPUs, Alienware’s m15 and m17 R4 laptops have plenty of powerful options, assuming you’re willing to pay for upgrades.
