Apple’s rumored experiment to use its content offerings to cross-promote its services now includes two new non-fiction series titled The line.

The first is a six-part podcast series that premieres today, with three episodes currently available as of this writing. The podcast will be hosted and produced executive by Dan Taberski and will delve into the controversial acquittal of Navy Chief of Special Operations Edward Gallagher, who was detained in 2018, after it was alleged that he had committed war crimes because of the brutal killings of an ISIS captive, among other alleged crimes, including posing with a photo of a corpse.

In 2019, he was found not guilty of all charges except one charge of placing with the corpse, a development that reaction generated of the Navy SEALs that circled Gallagher.

Both the podcast and the docuseries, which premieres in the fall as a limited four-part series on Apple TV +, will examine “the complicated realities involved in the struggle during a decade-long war, removing the layers surrounding Gallagher’s alleged crimes,” Apple said in a Press release. Both series are produced by Jigsaw Productions. The series will include interviews with Gallagher and his wife, as well as incorporating 50 current and former special operations.

That Apple offers this dual format, which in fact cross-promotes its services, is no surprise. Bloomberg reported last year, Apple made a big push of the podcast in part to promote its Apple TV + originals. And that’s probably reasonable, given the slow start of Apple TV + out the door, in part due to the limited number of titles available at launch.
