Reports that the iPhone 13 would allow users to send text messages and make calls even when they don’t have cell phone coverage connecting to satellites caused quite a stir last week, especially considering that Apple’s revealing fall event is just around the corner. However, now there is another rumor that says it is a mistake, which means you shouldn’t have to prepare your wallet yet.
Bloomberg reported on Sunday, Apple has no plans “now, next year or in the near future” to create a satellite iPhone. According to the outlet, Apple’s hardware is not yet ready to support calls and text messages without cellular coverage. It would also be expensive and could greatly upset the mobile phone operators the company works with.
While there are no satellite iPhones in operation right now, that doesn’t mean Apple isn’t working on satellite features. Bloomberg explain which, it is reported, these functions Designed for emergency situations in remote areas. In these scenarios, the phone would connect to satellite networks to allow users to send text messages to first aid or report an accident, such as a plane crash or sinking ship.
This doesn’t sound as fun as “calling and texting anyone and anywhere,” but they are still very useful features. Heck, it would definitely make me feel better doing hiking in the mountains (something I’ve done before, only to end up on the trail with a couple of cows).
However, it seems to be we are unlikely to see these satellite emergency features on the iPhone 13 expected later this month. Bloomberg claims that the hardware that supports these features could be incorporated into the iPhone this year, but the features themselves will not be released until 2022. In addition, these features will only be available in selected countries, but not all.

In other rumors from Apple, you may not be able to get an Apple Watch Series 7 right away. The outlet reports that the 7 Series, which will supposedly have 41 and 45 mm screens and a new design with flat edges, will be announced alongside the new iPhone, however some models will be shipped in small quantities at first, while others will be shipped later.
We don’t have a date for Apple’s September event yet, but it could arrive as early as this week.
