According to reports, Apple is stopping manufacturing original HomePod smart speaker as the company focuses the HomePod mini, is his more affordable little brother.

TechCrunch Apple announced on Friday the confirmation that would present the HomePod a few years after its initial launch. Reviews they were not children when Apple’s voice-controlled smart speaker hit the shelves in 2018. Critics argued that its high-quality sound was certainly not worth dealing with the walled garden of Apple and its side priced at $ 349, which is much more expensive than Amazon Echo or Google Nest line of smart speakers. As if that wasn’t enough, the HomePod also had a weird trend to stain people’s furniture. Apple lowered the price to $ 299 a year later, but apparently that wasn’t enough to save it, as Apple is now putting the manPod to graze.

The HomePod Mini, on the other hand, received a much warmer reception. This smaller version of Apple’s first-generation smart speaker was launched in November for $ 99, even more expensive than its tiny competitors, the Echo Dot or Nest Mini, but in pairs of the mid-range options from Amazon and Google. At the time, we called the HomePod Mini “a little solid speaker” and “the perfect complementary device” for people embracing the Apple smart home ecosystem.

In a statement a multiple points of sale, Apple said the HomePod Mini has been “a hit” since its debut, so much so that the company chose to focus exclusively on its smaller speaker.

If you currently have a HomePod OG, don’t worry – Apple will confirm software updates and technical support for those already on the market. Existing units will also remain available “until stocks run out”, although the Space Gray option already appears to be out of stock. Apple website.

You can read Apple’s statement below:

HomePod mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers incredible sound, a smart assistant and smart home control all for just $ 99. We are focusing our efforts on HomePod mini. We are no longer producing the original HomePod, which will continue to be available until supplies run out of Apple’s online store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple’s authorized resellers. Apple will provide HomePod customers with software, service and support updates through Apple Care.

The original HomePod isn’t the only product en route to Apple’s cemetery this month. Last week, Apple announced it would stop working the iMac Pro, his $ 5,000 workstation, after just four years on the market.
