Apple’s latest software update will fix an issue the company said affected some older MacBook Pro models.

Users currently running Big Sur on their machines should now see the macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 update when they go to the Software Update section of their System Preferences. The description of the update specifically specifies that it “addresses an issue that may prevent the battery from charging on some 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro models,” although it appears that Apple included some security updates too.

macOS Big Sur 11.2 was released last week with a update group and error correction. Among these, the update fixed Bluetooth connectivity issues, fixed a system preferences administrator access issue, and fixed an issue with Mac minis when connecting to external displays using an HDMI to DVI.

Aside from the charging issue of some updated MacBook Pro models, but related to charging MacBook Pro more generally, there have recently been some interesting rumors about charging the next generation of Pro laptops that await us . Both of us Bloomberg and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have suggested that the company plans to launch two MacBook Pro models in 14- and 16-inch screen sizes that would abandon the USB-C charging standard of recent years to return to MagSafe charging ports.

As much as I love the USB-C standard (many devices, one cable), I can’t help but feel hopeful with a potential future in which I don’t send my laptop to the ground every time I stumble upon its charging cable .
