Apple urges security update on iPhones, iPads

Apple urges iPhone and iPad users to upgrade their devices to fix security flaws that hackers could have “actively exploited”

CUPERTINO, California – Apple urges iPhone and iPad users to upgrade their devices to fix security flaws that hackers could have “actively exploited.”

Apple made the software updates available on Tuesday, adding a weird note that suggested it was a serious threat.

The company credited anonymous investigators for pointing out the vulnerability, but provided few details about the nature of the threat.

The company said one of the vulnerabilities affects the “core,” the nerve center of Apple’s operating system, iOS. Two others affect WebKit, the web browser engine used by Safari and other applications.

The update is for several generations of devices, starting with the iPhone 6.
