For years, news of the discontinuity of Barnes & Noble’s Nook line of Android e-tablet and tablet readers has appeared again and again, but somehowMark-this-he could challenge his own death with new hardware that would bring him back to the brink of extinction. Today it is presented in the form of new 10-inch Nook tablet courtesy of Lenovo.
There have been good reasons to repeatedly believe that Barnes & Noble has left its Nook line, including the simple fact that its E Ink-based devices and their most capable tablets have been sold out online and have been very hard to find in stores until late. But said Susan McCulloch, chief operating officer of Barnes & Noble’s Nook The Verge yesterday, that low stocks are the result of strong demand and sales of its e-readers as a result of everyone being trapped at home during the pandemic.
That will change soon for dedicated Nook users, as a new 10-inch Nook tablet, designed with Lenovo, with a full metal body and an “85% screen-to-body ratio” will be available in early April. Powered by an octave core processor “with a main frequency of up to 2.3 GHz,” the new Nook features a 10.1-inch HD IPS touchscreen, while its 32GB of built-in storage can be expanded with a microSD card. It is promised that the battery life will be up to “10 hours of web browsing ”, which means that if you don’t broadcast video, you won’t get it so much battery life between charges. The new Nook also includes Bluetooth connectivity, FM radio, and front and rear cameras, so it can be used for more than one media consumer device.
Although it has a custom Barnes & Noble interface that runs on Android, the new Nook still has access to the Google Play Store. Thus, users can choose to get their content from the Barnes & Noble app or download books from other vendors like Amazon or Rakuten using the Kindle and Kobo apps. Priced at $ 130, the new Nook sounds like another Android tablet with a good price and above all capable, but most importantly, puts the Nook brand back on life support for at least a couple more years.
