Bill Gates wants to do his part to try to reduce the impact of a warming planet. He has just published a book on climate change. It turns out he has also been changing parts of his life to reduce carbon emissions.

At the last Gates Ask-Me-Anything session on Reddit on Friday, a user asked Microsoft co-founder what people can do to reduce their carbon emissions. Among other things, he recommended that people consume less.

Another user responded by asking what he does to consume less.

“On a personal level, I’m doing a lot more,” Gates wrote. “I drive electric cars. I have solar panels in my house. I eat synthetic meat (sometimes!). I buy green aviation fuel. I pay for direct air capture by Climeworks. I help finance electric heat pumps costing a housing to replace natural gas “.

In November, Gates made headlines after saying he predicted that more than half of all business trips would disappear after the coronavirus pandemic. Friday showed how this could manifest itself in its own schedule.

“I plan to fly much less now that the pandemic has shown that we can go out with fewer trips,” he wrote. Microsoft creates the Teams app that allows workers to chat and meet in video calls. While Gates resigned in the year of Microsoft, he remains a Microsoft investor and is still reviewing the products the company is developing.

Gates also mentioned programs with which he participates to encourage ecological efforts.

“I created Breakthrough Energy including the Venture, Fellows and Catalyst fund to help with the weather,” he wrote. “For me, innovation is what will make it possible to provide services to everyone without emissions.”
