After launching the FPS Boost feature in February with a handful of games, Microsoft has announced that five more games, all from Bethesda, will soon enjoy FPS Boost support.

This news comes from the last episode of Official Xbox podcast. In its opening section, Xbox Live’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb and Xbox senior communications manager Jeff Rubenstein discussed Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda. To celebrate the deal, a lot of new Bethesda games were added to Game Pass. But what excites me most is that five Bethesda games from the service will soon receive FPS Boost support, a feature that allows older games to run at higher frame rates in the Xbox X and S series.

The five games in question are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, i Disgraced: final edition.

One interesting thing, if you’re interested in this topic, is this Fallout 4 was one of the the first games we saw using FPS Boost before the new function had an official name. In a short video that was offered without much context last October, Microsoft introduced it Fallout 4 running at 60 frames per second. While Xbox gamers could already use game modification support to achieve a similar performance boost, it will finally be an official feature soon.

Be sure to set the video to 720p60 or 1080p60 to really see the difference.

The podcast did not give a specific date for when to expect this latest game harvest to get FPS Boost support. Looks like it can happen when the file next big update of the Xbox Series X / S drop-down, which will add per-game settings that will allow players to toggle Auto HDR and FPS Boost on games that support it.

I recently checked FPS Boost and he came out very impressed. It made the old games feel more modern and playable without the need for additional modifications or downloads. I’m excited to see it as something like that Fallout 76 will work with FPS Boost, as its performance on consoles is notoriously poor. But now that Fallout 76 it’s pretty good, it would be great to see it work better on next generation Xbox consoles.
