Drew Barrymore believes Britney Spears has been sending her “little smoke signals” amid the pop superstar’s conservative battle with her father, Jamie Spears, away.
Barrymore, 46, told “Entertainment Tonight” this week that 39-year-old Spears has been secretly communicating with her after the host of the talk show sent her private video messages via of social media.
“[I wanted to] show her that I am someone who has understood what a journey is like, and I don’t compare myself to her, but I am here to support her if there is anything she needs in private, ”the former child actress said.
Describing the content of his messages to Spears, Barrymore said he offered “encouragement and justice. [told] she who I believe is the key to her freedom. “
When asked to share the singer’s response to “Toxic,” Barrymore said there were “small signs of smoke.”
“I am very invested in this. I think everyone deserves a chance to get their lives right, to make mistakes and everything in between, ”Barrymore said, explaining his interest in the #FreeBritney movement.“ This has become a public interest because it is something bigger. “
She added: “It’s about being allowed to live your life. So I’m invested in that and I want you to find your freedom.”
Page Six confirmed Tuesday that 69-year-old Jamie Spears has filed a petition to end the conservatory that has controlled her famous daughter’s life for the past 13 years.
“This filing represents another legal victory for Britney Spears (a big one) as well as a claim for Ms. Spears,” Britney Spears ’attorney Mathew S. Rosengart said in a statement on page six.
During a June 23 court testimony, Spears described his conservative as “abusive.” His father’s request to end the restrictive legal arrangement – which came after years of strong resistance – will be heard on January 28, 2022 during an authority hearing.
Barrymore previously compared his young life to the spotlight – including the time his mother, Jaid Barrymore, 13, was inadvertently admitted to a psychiatric hospital with Spears’ situation.
“I have so much empathy for so many people,” he told The Howard Stern Show in February. “I’m sure people look at it and think,‘ These party girls, these privileges, how dare you feel about that? They’ve been around, they’ve asked for it: it’s a fair f-king game. ” And I just say, “They’re human. They’re just human.”
