Chinese officials have detained Hesfon, who works at the Bloomberg news bureau in Beijing, on suspicion of endangering national security. Fon last contacted one of his teachers at 11:30 a.m. local time on Monday. Shortly afterwards, he was taken from his apartment building by plainclothes security officers. Within four days of his disappearance, Bloomberg sought information about Fan’s location from the Chinese government and the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C. His family was informed within 24 hours. Bloomberg News’ parent, Bloomberg LP, on Thursday confirmed the fan’s arrest on suspicion of engaging in activities that endanger national security. “We are very concerned about her and are actively talking to Chinese officials to better understand the situation. We will continue to do everything we can to support her as we seek additional information,” said a Bloomberg spokesman. He has been with CNBC, CBS News, Al Jazeera and Thomson Reuters. The fan has been detained by the Beijing National Security Bureau on suspicion of engaging in crimes affecting national security under Chinese law. The case is currently under investigation.
