If they were awarded a Grammy for modesty, Billie Eilish would probably score as well.
Last night at the 2021 Grammy Awards, the 19-year-old pop star took her second Grammy of the night (and the seventh of her short life) to the record of the year, the final category of the ceremony. And, faithfully to Billie, he insisted on focusing on another artist of the night: Megan Thee Stallion.
“She is OK. You had a year that I think you can’t get over. You’re a queen … Really, that goes for her, ”Eilish said at Sunday’s awards contest, with her music collaborator and sister Finneas O’Connell, 23, by her side.
“Can we cheer Megan Thee Stallion on, please?” added. For her part, rapper “Savage” received three Grammys on Sunday, including Best New Artist, rap song and rap performance.
Judging by the duo’s shocking reaction, the audience was clear they weren’t expecting the honors.
“They are not happy to have won. More like “Oh no, someone deserves this” ” has tweeted a viewer in response to the award.
But when some viewers turned to social media to criticize Eilish’s dedication to Megan as performative wake up, the always frank Chrissy Teigen came to the defense of the singer “Everything I wanted.”
“The winning record of the year sucks because you can’t enjoy it when everyone tells you why you don’t deserve it” Teigen tweeted Sunday night, getting 26,000 likes in support. “It’s just s – – t. people suck. and it is not the record of the winner of the year “.
Teigen’s defense came when some impressed viewers compared Eilish’s dedication to other white artists who have thanked and honored his non-white nominees with Adele who dedicated her album of the year to Beyoncé in 2017.
“Billie Eillish’s record of the year? Facial vomiting should go wild or wap. ” said fashion blogger Bryan Boy.
“I hate when whites do that,” wrote “Slave Play” playwright Jeremy O. Harris.
Still, Eilish and O’Connell received overwhelming support, including from celebrities like Kylie Jenner, model Sara Sampaio, Spanish singer Rosalía and actor Claudia Sulewski, who shared their love on Instagram yesterday on night.
Last night Sulewski said of the musical couple on Instagram: “The most deserving humans.”
