This December 31st is no typical New Year’s Eve. Do you really want to be caught without plans on the last night of the decade?

According to some accounts, you are in the best possible city to start 2021, anyway. According to WalletHub, Denver is the second best city in the United States to celebrate New Year’s Eve, just behind New York City. The personal finance website compared the 100 largest cities in the United States “across 28 key metrics,” according to a press release, considering everything from the legality of fireworks to the convenience of walking, restaurant options and the average price of a party ticket.

This year’s New Year’s Eve night explosions in Denver range from sleek, disguised outfits to dance nights that come as you are, a two-night EDM festival and even it’s about play with swords. Many of these parties come with a Roaring Twenties theme, so now is a good time to dust off this fedora that ceased to be fresh around 2009 more or less.

Union Station

Union Station will be big for New Year’s Eve with three events. At the Great Hall Silent Disco and Light Show, you will be given headphones to dance to one of three live silent discs as you dance the night away under an epic light show. Tickets are $ 65 to $ 80 per person. If you’re particularly interested in the New Year’s Eve drinking aspect, grab tickets (not cheap at $ 200 per person) at “Speakeasy VIP” with themes from the twenties at the lower level of Union Station. Tickets include unlimited drinks atnd hors d’oeuvres, an “intimate piano performance” and access to the silent disco. For $ 120 per ticket, tap the new year with table service in the Cooper Lounge on the mezzanine overlooking the Great Hall. You’ll receive a selection of “approved canapés,” a glass of complimentary champagne at midnight, and you’ll have access to the quiet nightclub. All three events are over 21 years old. 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Union Station, 1701 Wynkoop St., Denver, unionstationdenver.com

Noble Riot

What better way to end the decade than with some sword game? Before the streets fill with partygoers, head to Noble Riot, a small, romantic wine cellar tucked away in the alley around Denver Central Market, to grab a new skill: sabrage. In the Sabrage University wine class, you will learn the most festive way to open a bottle of champagne, with a friggin ‘to know. You will get a lesson in the history of sabrage, the physics involved and you can even practice in bottles, safety glasses and gloves included. After learning a new party trick, you can walk into the wine bar to enjoy the loot of your work. If you feel like staying later, the wine bar also hosts a 125-peso party that includes unlimited house wine, a buffet and, of course, more saber. Sabrage University is $99 per person. 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Noble Riot, 1336 27th St., Denver, 303-993-5330, nobleriot.punchpass.com

Resolution

Two words: open bar. Considering how much you pay to participate in these parties, that’s the least they can do, right? Resolution, a massive party in the McNichols building that has returned for the eleventh year, has it all: a balloon drop, “confetti explosions,” whatever the “cryogenic explosions,” lots of tempting entertainers and dancers, and the so-called “thin” open bar. The organizers describe it as “really interactive and HIGH CLASS”: you know they mean that part, because they put it in capital letters. $ 107-160 per person; prices rise on December 15th. 7:30 to 1:30 p.m. at McNichols Building, 144 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, resolutionverver.com

White Rose Gala

With five floors, more than 50 performers and “interactive experiences with fantastic lighting and decor,” the White Rose Gala at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House is a pretty massive New Year’s Eve party. What mass? Well, you will be ringing the new year with about 2,000 people, and it is likely that they will all dress up again as this celebration has a dress code. The theme of the party is Roaring Twenties and The Great Gatsby, so expect flapper dresses, dresses and fedoras, but no jeans, as dressing is against the rules. As for entertainment, expect ballroom dancing demonstrations, box bars (drinks are not included in this) and a VIP section with blackjack tables and craps. Book a table for four for $ 99 or a “VIP sofa” for six for $ 299. $ 79- $ 129 per person; 21 years and older. 21:00 to 01:30 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, 1400 Curtis St., Denver, newyearspartydenver.com
