Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced Tuesday afternoon that it is now possible to buy Tesla vehicles in the U.S. with bitcoin.
Last month, the automaker revealed that it had bought $ 1.5 billion in bitcoins and would soon begin accepting the world’s most popular cryptocurrency as a form of payment.
“Now you can buy a Tesla with Bitcoin,” he tweeted.
People outside the United States will be able to buy a Tesla with bitcoin “later this year,” Musk said, without specifying which countries.
To accept payment, Musk said Tesla uses open source and “internal” software.
He added that Tesla “operates bitcoin nodes directly.” Nodes are computers in the Bitcoin network that work to verify transactions and prevent cryptocurrency from being spent twice.
