Epic Games has bought Mediatonic, the creator of last year’s battle royale success Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, the company announced today.
According to Epic, “the game doesn’t change” and the company will continue to support Autumn boys “On all platforms,” including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. However, it’s unclear what this will mean for the game’s future, as Epic continues to invest in exclusives for its rival digital gaming showcase. The company previously purchased Rocket League Psyonix manufacturer in 2019 and a year later new sales of the game on Steam stopped.
Previous Mediatonic games include the excellent Murder by numbers puzzle game as well as the Gears Pop! mobile adaptation of War gears.
Autumn boys was released last summer there and on PS4 as a free PlayStation Plus game for paid subscribers, and proved a nice distraction from the ongoing pandemic thanks to its crowded and chaotic online multiplayer. It has also been a cross-country power, with skins thrown every few weeks sporting characters ranging from Sonic a Cuphead.

“It’s no secret that Epic is investing in the creation of the metaverse and that Tonic Games shares that goal,” said Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. he said in a press release. “While Epic is working to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who knows how to build powerful games, content and experiences.”
Last month, Mediatonic announced that the game would hit Switch and Xbox later this summer.
