DETROIT – There have recently been two different drunk driving incidents that affected Detroit firefighters.
The first incident occurred Feb. 21 when the Squadron 6 operator, a heavy rescue engine, crashed into a car parked on the east side of Detroit while answering a call about a woman who was ill. The firefighter was spotted detecting alcohol and the department said it tested above the legal limit.

Sources said that firefighter and his crew were at a retirement and promotions party at Engine House 50 when the call came. Sources said alcohol was consumed at that party.
The second recent incident happened Monday morning. The No. 5 incumbent did not respond to calls about a house fire on the west side of Detroit.

The veteran firefighter was later found trapped in a department SUV, hanging over the Lodge freeway. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
“I take it very seriously. It will not be tolerated, ”Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said.
Duggan said the department and himself should have seen the breast come and should have strengthened the employee assistance program.
The Fire Department said they appreciated the help.

The woman’s sister was ill inside a house on the east side of town and when the Detroit group of six firefighters arrived at the scene, a 26-year-old firefighter behind the wheel of a $ 500,000 ransom hit his car.
The Detroit Fire Department is investigating what they call dinner, but sources call it a big party at Motor 50, on the east side of Detroit.
Sources told Local 4 Defenders that there was drinking, a lot of drinking and that members of Squadron Six were on duty and driving the fire engine to the party.

The SUV of a Detroit fire chief was found hanging over the Lodge freeway in Milwaukee and Baltimore Monday morning.

The SUV was the No. 5 Detroit Fire Department. A fire captain was arrested Monday. Sources said the captain was driving under the influence.
The incident began Monday morning at 2 a.m. when a call came out about a fire on the west side of Detroit in Majestic and Livernois.
The captain was supposed to be on call, he would serve as head coach of the fire operation. Repeated calls were made on the radio, but the captain could not be contacted, sources said.
Sources told Local 4 that the captain had been suspended in 2016 following a codeine-related incident that was not prescribed to him.
