(Reuters) – Facebook Inc. said in a blog post on Monday that it will begin launching a notification to iPhone users worldwide about how data is used for personalized ads, in an attempt to get ahead in the coming Apple Inc.’s privacy changes that Facebook says will harm its advertising business.
The full-screen application will ask Facebook and Instagram users to use their app and website activity for personalized ads and to “help ad-based businesses reach their customers.”
The social media giant has been fighting Apple’s plan to ask iPhone users if they allow apps to track them on other websites and apps, warning that Apple’s notification “suggests that there are a compromise between personalized advertising and privacy “and that will hurt small businesses that rely on Facebook ads.
Apple said its emerging privacy notifications will begin appearing on most iPhones in the coming months.
