Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Wednesday that the company will stop recommending civic and political groups to its users.

The change comes in the wake of the January 6 U.S. Capitol uprising.

“This is a continuation of the work we’ve been doing for a while to lower the temperature and discourage divisive talks,” Zuckerberg said in a call with analysts after the company’s fourth-quarter earnings.

This comes after the company decided to temporarily stop recommending these groups to U.S. users in October before the 2020 U.S. election.

In addition, Zuckerberg said the company is now considering measures to reduce the amount of political content users see in its news feed.

“One of the main comments we hear from our community right now is that people don’t want politics and struggle to take over their experience in our services,” Zuckerberg said.
