Earlier this year, Fitbit was working on launching a snoring and snoring detection feature. Now, seconds 9 to 5 Google, this feature is currently being implemented for Sense and Versa 3 smartwatch owners.

Fitbit tilted his hand for the first time with a Snore Detect beta application for the Versa 2 smartwatch. The feature was then seen in code for the Fitbit 3.42 update in May. When enabled, the feature will use the microphone on certain Fitbit smartwatches to control night noise. This included snoring, both from you and any sleep buddy, as well as from your surroundings.

To enable the feature, Sense and Versa 3 owners with a Fitbit Premium subscription can access the Fitbit app’s “Sleep” page. There should be an option for “Check for Snoring,” as well as additional information about how the feature works. You can check it out screenshots in Google writing from 9 to 5.

“During sleep, the Fitbit’s microphone can control noise, including the snoring of you or someone next to you,” the screen says. In terms of function monitoring, Fitbit says it looks for sound intensity, the intensity of your environment, and snoring events. The data is displayed in a “snoring report” in your morning report. In a section on privacy, Fitbit also says that users can turn off the feature and delete snoring / noise data. And, as always, the function is not intended to diagnose or treat any medical condition. The feature also seems to run out of battery: Fitbit recommends that you have at least 40% battery before you touch the hay.

Note that from the function it’s fair deploying, you may not see the option right away. Nor is it clear if it is will be available for Versa 2 owners. The feature requires a smartwatch with a built-in microphone, which has the Versa 2, and the initial beta app was also compatible with the device. However, since this is a state-of-the-art device, it is possible that Fitbit will try to subtly convince customers of the upgrade. Gizmodo has approached Fitbit for clarification on the launch and whether the Versa 2 is included among the eligible devices, but did not get an immediate response.

Fitbit isn’t the only smartwatch maker experimenting with snoring detection. Samsung also debuted the feature in its recent release Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic. However, Samsung’s function works slightly differently. Snoring detection is powered by Sleep Cycle and also requires users to sleep with the smartphone microphone pointed at their head. It also, very rudely, allows you to hear recorded snippets of your snores.

We’ll have to see for ourselves how Fitbit’s noise and snoring detection works, but overall, it gives Fitbit one more edge in sleep tracking. The company was one of the first to include in-depth sleep analysis and still has one of the best sleep monitoring platforms that can be carried. The company has also been working on it sleep apnea detection for a long time, although we have not seen recent updates on this front.
