Forensic Physician: Capitol police officer died of severe force injuries

A forensic doctor in Washington, DC, said Thursday that Capitol police officer William “Billy” Evans died from multiple stab wounds after a car crashed into a barrier at the U.S. Capitol.

According to the Washington Post, Evans’ death was considered a homicide by the examiner.

The suspect in the attack, 25-year-old Noah Green, was shot dead by police after getting out of the car and allegedly threw himself at police with a knife.

Evans, 41, died last Friday shortly after the attack.

Another Capitol police officer who was beaten in the vehicle attack was injured, but has since left the hospital.

Evans, an 18-year-old force veteran, is the most recent Capitol police officer to die this year after Brian Sicknick, who died after being injured in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

Officers Howard Liebengood and Jeffrey Smith were killed shortly after the Jan. 6 attack.

Evans will lie in honor of the Capitol Roundabout on April 13th. He will be the sixth person honored at the roundabout and the second Capitol police officer this year after Sicknick received the same tribute in February.

Evans’ family issued a statement in his honor on Tuesday.

“Billy was the best father, son, brother and friend anyone could ever expect,” his family said. “Billy was proud to be a police officer at the U.S. Capitol. His colleagues at the North Barricade were the people he spent so many hours with and his friendship was one of the best parts of his job.”
