Among voters in their home states, Hawley’s approval rating fell 6 points between Jan. 6 and Monday, according to Morning Consult polls released Friday. Cruz’s approval rating with voters fell 3 points in the same time period.
The two senators also saw a decline in approval ratings with Republicans in their home states. Hawley’s approval rating fell 9 points among Missouri Republicans to 63%, while Cruz’s fell 5 points to 76% among Texas Republicans.
Cruz and Hawley have had mixed reactions to their role in challenging the Electoral College vote during the certification process in Congress the same day of the Capitol riot, which left five people dead.
Seven Senate Democrats on Thursday asked the Ethics Committee to open an investigation into the two Republican senators and specifically whether their objections to the results of the Electoral College violated the chamber’s ethical rules.
Both senators have denounced the violence that erupted, but have upheld their decision to oppose the results of the Arizona and Pennsylvania Electoral College.
Hawley called the requested probe a “flagrant attempt at partisan revenge.”
Morning Consult’s Political Intelligence polls were conducted between about 3,000 voters in Texas and 1,000 voters in Missouri. Voting before January 6 took place between December 27 and January 5 and after January 9-18.
