Health reports the missed vaccines in Morovis were from Walgreens

The Secretary of Health, Carlos Mellado, reported this evening that the box with vaccines against COVID-19 found in Morovis, were doses delivered to the Walgreens pharmacy under the federal contract for Prolonged Care Centers.

“I have ordered an immediate investigation into what has happened to assign responsibility and refer to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and to the Department of Justice or any other agency with jurisdiction.” said Mellado in written statements.

The secretary gave the Health Research Office a 24-hour period to investigate and submit a report on the 22 doses found in a cardboard box by a citizen.

“Managing the vaccine in an emergency requires all providers to act with the utmost responsibility,” he added.

In the complaint made to the police, the citizen commented that inside the box was a white refrigerator, with syringes and a box with vaccines of the Modern Company.

Earlier, Mellado said he was “very upset” and “outraged” by the situation.

“We need to investigate and come to the final conclusions because there is an urgent interest of the Puerto Rican people to know what happened and that an explanation can be given in Puerto Rico,” he mentioned during the afternoon.
