Josephine County public health workers were returning from a mass vaccination clinic at Cave Junction’s Illinois Valley High School when about 20 members of the group were trapped in a snowstorm in Hayes Hill, the agency said. .
They had with them six leftover doses of vaccine.
To prevent these doses from being used before they expired, workers went from car to car to offer people the chance to shoot themselves, the health department said.
An ambulance was waiting nearby in case any recipient had any adverse reactions.
The six doses were administered to declared motorists, including an employee of the sheriff’s office who intended to be at the previous mass vaccination event but was trapped in the snow, the health department said.
Oregon received more than 100,000 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines last week, according to the state coronavirus center. The state is still in phase 1 of the vaccine launch and health workers and teachers have been among the first to get it.
