Sor, you’ve heard of a new feature that will allow you to unlock your iPhone while wearing a mask and you want. (Who could blame you ?!) The good news is that you can access it with a public beta that is already available. The bad news is that you will have to jump through a few hoops before you can use it. You’ll also need an Apple Watch, and your smartwatch should be on your wrist, unlocked, and password-protected. Oh, and loaded.

Do you have all this? Well.

The first thing you need to do is download the latest public beta updates from both your watch and iPhone, so that iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4. (Make sure your devices are backed up in case something weird happens during the process.) You’ll also be asked to provide your Apple ID password, so you have it on hand. Then go to beta.apple.com in Safari on your iPhone and select To start. From this page, you can select which of the public beta programs you want to download. Select the file IOS tab and scroll down to where it says register your iOS device and select this option. Then scroll down and click on the blue Download profile button. Below you will see a series of requests to install the public beta profile.

Once you have completed this process, go to Configuration, select Generaland click Software update. This is where you should now see an option Download and install it the public beta iOS 14.5. Follow the instructions to install the update, take a sip of water, and then prepare to install the clock update. Note that the watch will need its charger and will need at least 50% battery life.

From the same Safari beta landing page, click To start and then select the file watchOS option from the top menu. From this page, you should see a blue color Download profile button“Click on it.” Follow the instructions to download the public beta profile and then go to yours See the application. Once the watch is connected to the charger and at least half-charged, go to the Watch app until General, so Software updateand select Install below the public beta description of watchOS 7.4.

Once the public beta profiles are installed on both your watch and iPhone, you should be able to enable the feature that allows you to unlock your phone while wearing a mask. Go to the phone Configuration, scroll down to Face identification and password, and you should now see an option for Unlock with Apple Watch. Switch this function activated. Now your Apple Watch should buzz because it unlocks your phone when you wear a mask and the watch will show an option to lock your phone again as well. Unlocking is almost instantaneous and is certainly much easier than entering your password.

And that’s it, that’s it! It may take a minute to set up, but hopefully you’ll be free to remove the mask or enter your password manually each time you need to unlock your phone to advance.
