NEW YORK (AP): One of the few copies of the comic that Superman introduced to the world has been sold at a record price.

Action Comics # 1 issue came out for $ 3.25 million in a private sale, ComicConnect.com, an online auction and slogan company, announced Tuesday.

It nearly surpassed the comic book’s previous record, set at auction for another copy in 2014 for just over $ 3.2 million.

The comic, published in 1938, “really is the beginning of the superhero genre,” said Vincent Zurzolo, CEO of ComicConnect.com, which brokered the sale.

He explained to readers the origins of Superman, how he came to Earth from another planet and passed through Clark Kent.

The seller of this particular issue bought the comic in 2018 for just over $ 2 million.

Zurzolo said that while there were hundreds of thousands of copies initially published, it is estimated that there are only a few hundred at present and in different conditions. He said this copy is one of the best kept.

“There’s no comic that you can value more in terms of comics than Action Comics # 1,” he said.
