Amazon announced Tuesday that you can now ask Alexa’s voice assistant to share your shopping list with friends or family via your phone or an Amazon Echo.

It’s especially useful now, during the holidays, in case you want to share your child’s gift list with someone. But it’s also useful if a family member is in the store and you want to create a quick list of items to pick up or for people with vision problems who want to create and share a list by voice.

Here’s how to use Alexa to send a shopping list to someone.

How to share your shopping list with Amazon Alexa

  • First, you need to create a shopping list.
  • You can do this in the Alexa app for iPhone or Android by tapping “more” and opening the “Lists & Notes” menu item and adding items to “Shopping.” You can also tell Alexa to add items to your list by saying “Alexa, add soap to my shopping list.”
  • Then share the list by opening the Alexa app and tapping the Alexa button at the top of the screen and then saying “Alexa, share my shopping list.”
  • Alexa will ask you who you want to share it with. Then say the name of your friend or family member.

This is the essence. Your family member or friend will receive a notification on their phone and Amazon Echos notifying you that you’ve shared the list. And they will be able to see it and buy everything you have requested.
