Fold phones aren’t quite common yet, though Huawei’s new Mate X2 looks like it may be real competition for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Announced via live broadcast Earlier today, the Mate X2 is a major deviation from Huawei’s previous folding phones. The company has changed from an exterior folding design to an interior folding design that places the Mate X2’s 8-inch 2480 x2200 folding OLED display on the inside of the device. OOn the outside, there’s now a 6.45-inch 27.45 x 1600 secondary OLED display, with 90-inch indoor and outdoor displays Hz refresh rates.

He Mate X2 shares the same basic design like Samsung’s folding car, though the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a 120 Hz top refsh rate. But Huawei deviates in some interesting ways.

The first big change is something I really wish Samsung had done. At tinside, Huawei doesn’t include a selfie camera, so there’s no oscillation or hole.pierce the camera to distract yourself from this huge flexible screen. It might seem like a bold call to some, especially when it comes to social media right now, but considering you can still take a selfie with the camera on top of the outside screen, that means when be open, your attention will be so great. full screen experience, right where it should be.

Huawei said during its live broadcast that the Mate X2 will have a small fold where the phone screen folds for its design, but with with intelligent engineering, the fold should be rather a ripple to help prevent possible screen distortion. Tthe hinge of the Mate X2 was also designed to close the gap between the two halves of the phone when folded, something Samsung couldn’t do in the Z Fold 2. The end result is a more compact body.

Another important difference is that the Mate X2 has a more standard 21: 9 size external display compared to the25: 9 thin screen used by Samsung on the Z Fold 2, which gives you more real estate properties by responding quickly to texts or reviewing notifications. These are all the changes that should make the use of the Mate X2 easier every day and serves to reinforce why folding phones need more companies testing design changes if they ever become popular.

Tthe cameras of the Mate X2 they include a 16 MP exterior selfie camera, along with a quad-rear camera module consisting of a 50 MP main camera, a 16 MP Cine Cam, a 12 MP 3x zoom camera and a 8 MP Super Zoom Camera with 10x Zoom. It’s a pretty powerful set of photo tools, with Huawei’s 10x zoom offering a much longer range than the Z Fold’s 2x optical zoom 2.

Unlike the Z Fold 2, the Mate X2 has no space in the middle of the flexible screen when closed, which is a real step for folding phones.

Samsung loaded its folded insignia with awesome specifications, however the Mate X2 the components are not so high, with only 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage and wireless charging is not supported. The Mate X2 can too being the latest Huawei phone to feature one of the company’s own Kirin 9000 chips, which had originally been retired after last year Mate 40 Pro. Still, the Mate X2 is expected to cost 18,000 RMB in China (about $ 2,785) when it goes on sale on February 25th.-This is almost $ 800 more than a Z Fold 2.

Hauwei says it will update the Mate X2 with its new in-house Harmony operating system later this spring, but Huawei phones do not yet support any Google app or service, which is a deal breaker for people living outside of Asia.. Bebetween that, it is High price and unknown availability for the Mate X2 outside of China, although this device represents a good turn in the design of folding phones, Huawei’s technology remains difficultespecially for people in the US
