Japan reports 8 new cases of anaphylaxis

The Japanese health ministry says eight more people have developed severe allergic symptoms after receiving a coronavirus vaccine.

The condition called anaphylaxis was reported in eight health workers between the ages of 20 and 50.

Medical institutions reported that the eight workers were inoculated from Tuesday to Wednesday with the vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical firm Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

They later experienced symptoms such as nausea, dizziness and headaches, but all have recovered.

All eight are allergic to certain foods and medications or have pre-existing conditions such as asthma and diabetes. A group of health ministry experts is scheduled to study the correlation on Friday.

A total of 148,915 health workers from Japan were vaccinated as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Anaphylaxis has been reported in 25 people. They are approximately one in 6,000 of those who have been inoculated.
