Hill blamed the leak on her estranged husband.

“Who among us would look perfect if every ex leaked every photo / text? Katie isn’t being investigated by Ethics or being denigrated because she’s hurt anyone, it’s because she’s different,” Gaetz tweeted at the time.

Hill identifies himself as bisexual.

In 2019, the former California representative was also being investigated in the House for an alleged extramarital affair with an office worker. Hill denied having an affair.

Hill later resigned his seat in Congress.

During an interview with MSNBC host Chris Hayes on Thursday night, Hill said she and Gaetz became friends because they served on the House Armed Services Committee and were about the same age.

Hill stated that in the midst of the allegations and leaks she suffered during her time in the House, he defended her.

“When it really mattered, when I felt particularly abandoned by the people of my own party and when I felt betrayed, alone, disgusted and … disgusted with myself, it matters a lot that someone defends you.”

But now, he said, in the midst of “all that comes out” about the Florida Republican, he feels “betrayed.”

“I feel betrayed by him,” Hill told Hayes. “And I have to wonder about his motivations for defending myself in the first place.”

The Justice Department is investigating Gaetz for allegations that he had had sex with a 17-year-old girl and paid for the trip for her.

Gaetz has denied all allegations against him.

“I should resign immediately,” Hill said. “The Ethics Committee should open an investigation immediately and for some reason didn’t do so when they opened one for me based on a tweet or a Facebook post from my bitter ex-husband.”

Hill added that he believes there is a double standard between the treatment of women and men during the charges.

“It’s horrible that this is the reality we’re seeing for women who run for office compared to men that, frankly, Gaetz could probably be charged and run for re-election and keep winning,” Hill said.
