Andy Jassy will have to take over the reigns of Amazon after Jeff Bezos announced on Tuesday that he would cease to be the CEO of his e-commerce empire.
Jassy, 53, started the company as a marketing manager in 1997, just three years after it was founded by Bezos, and over the next few decades helped turn Amazon into a profitable technology company.
For a long time it was rumored that Jassy would be a possible successor to Bezos.
His rise as CEO will not take place until the third quarter of 2021, when Bezos, 57, will become the executive chairman of Amazon’s board.
