Meghan Markle talked about why she and Prince Harry are now talking in a new clip from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Gayle King presented the video on “CBS This Morning” on Friday, saying it would show why Meghan and Harry “didn’t feel free to talk frankly before.”
The clip shows Winfrey addressing the issue with Meghan: “I called you in February or March 2018 before the wedding asking, ‘Please give me an interview’ and you said, ‘I’m sorry, it’s not the right time “.”
“I remember that conversation very well. They didn’t even allow me to hold the conversation with you personally, did they? Meghan replied. “There had to be people in communications [team] sitting there “.
“There were other people in the room when I had this conversation,” Winfrey said. “You rejected me very well and said, ‘Maybe there will be another time, when there is the right time.’
The media mogul insisted softly, “What about this time?”

“Well, so many things. That we are on the other side of a lot of life experience that has happened “, said Meghan. “And also that we have the ability to make our own decisions in a way that I couldn’t have told you yes, it wasn’t my choice.”
“As an adult who lived a truly independent life and then entered this construction which is, um, different from what I think what people imagine it to be, it is really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege to somehow be able to say, ‘Yes … I’m ready to talk.’ ”
Winfrey added, “And say it for yourselves. And not having to consult with anyone right now. ”
The Duchess replied, “Yes, to be able to make a choice on your own. And just to be able to speak for yourself. ”
In another clip of the interview published earlier this week, Winfrey asked the Duchess, “How do you feel about the palace when you hear you tell your truth today?”
“I don’t know how they could expect that after all this time we would still be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing to perpetuate falsehoods about us,” Meghan said in the teaser, released Wednesday.
“And if that carries the risk of losing things, I mean, there are a lot of things that have already been lost,” he added.
CBS told HuffPost in a statement earlier this month that Oprah talks to Meghan about “entering life as real work, marriage, motherhood and philanthropy, the way she handles life under intense public pressure.” during the interview.
Later in the interview, Meghan reunites with Prince Harry and the two discuss “her move to the United States and her future hopes and dreams for her expanding family,” CBS said.
The two-hour prime time special will air Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
