Several hours after Facebook announced it would block President Trump from posting new posts until the opening day, former First Lady Michelle Obama asked social media platforms to permanently ban him.
“Now is the time for Silicon Valley companies to stop allowing this monstrous behavior and go even further than they have permanently banned this man from their platforms and setting policies to prevent their technology from being used by leaders. of the country to fuel the insurgency, ”Michelle Obama said in a note posted to Twitter on Thursday.
His message addressed many issues, including the stark contrast between how Wednesday’s riots at the Capitol dealt with the violence the Black Lives Matters protesters experienced over the summer and said he was praying for Americans to give the president elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris an opportunity.
Until yesterday, Trump had received, for the most part, a free pass through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube from Google and other social networks, which have allowed him to freely post lies and conspiracy theories during his presidency, sometimes just stating that they presented information in dispute.
Facebook’s decision to block Trump happened on a day of gradual escalation of restrictions on its activity as riots, spurred on by Trump’s unfounded allegations of election fraud, surrounded the Capitol and occupied offices there.
In addition, Twitter temporarily suspended Trump’s account on Wednesday and Google’s YouTube on Thursday imposed new restrictions on channels that post videos with false election claims.
