Microsoft Edge 89 offers vertical tabs and new history view

Microsoft has officially released version 89 of its popular Edge browser based on Chromium, which has for the first time brought its long-tested vertical tab feature to Mac.

Microsoft Edge vertical tabs

Vertical tabs are intended to make more efficient use of screen space and should be a welcome addition for users browsing on 16: 9 aspect ratio screens in particular. Users can click the vertical tabs to switch between them and optionally group the related tabs.

“To make tab management and organization easier, vertical tabs are already available this month,” Microsoft corporate vice president Liat Ben-Zur said in a post on the company’s blog. “Now everyone can view and manage their tabs from a sideboard with a single click. This will allow you to clearly see the titles and tab controls, making it easy to search and switch between the tabs you need, regardless of the amount of have open “.

Edge users can switch between horizontal and vertical tabs by clicking the new “Enable / Disable Vertical Tabs” icon at the far left of the tab row. By default, vertical tabs are displayed as icons unless you move the cursor with the mouse pointer, but the expanded panel can also be set to the left side of the browser window so that the title of each page is visible. .

In addition to the vertical tabs, Edge now includes a new way to view your browsing history. Now, when users switch to history, it opens as a lightweight drop-down menu from the toolbar instead of opening the full page view in settings. The idea is that it allows users to easily search, open, and manage their history without moving away. For users who prefer the original style, this drop-down menu can also be set to the right side of the browser window as a dashboard.

Microsoft Edge has gained many users with its frequent feature updates and tight integration of Microsoft’s design language with the macOS design signature. The last major update came in January and introduced several new features, including “sleep tabs” that post system resources, a password generator and monitor, new visual themes, and more.

The browser can be downloaded from the Microsoft Edge website.
