Narineh Avakian: A missing California woman on a day trip was found dead in the mountains, according to police

Glendale resident Narineh Avakian, 37, was discovered near Mount Waterman Road, Glendale police department said in a press release.

Preliminary investigations indicate no brutal gambling was involved, police said, but the investigation into his death is ongoing.

Family members first contacted police on March 8, informing officers that Avakian had left his home a day earlier around noon and that he had said he was going on a hiking trip. ‘one day, according to a previous press release.

He didn’t say where he was going, police said.

“For the family, it is common for Narineh to go on group excursions and on solo trips, although lately she has gone solo,” the statement said.

On Thursday, Avakian’s parked vehicle was located in the Buckhorn Day Use Area, along Angeles Crest Road, police said. The recent snowstorm severely affected the area, police said.

After finding his vehicle, search and rescue teams were deployed from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, but severe weather conditions (including about a foot of snow) paused the search for several hours.

Glendale police said search and rescue teams from 17 different counties helped find Avakian.
