Rumors about the next compact smartphone model preferred by Apple fans are already in full effect, although it could be well over a year before seeing one.

Analyst Ross Young posted in Twitter on April 1 (grain of salt, etc.) that the next iPhone SE will arrive in 2022 with the same 4.7-inch form factor as the current SE. This updated model, Wrote Young, could come equipped with the sub-65G variation in GHz instead of compatibility with all bands included ultrafast millimeter wave spectrum. Young also mentioned hearing of a 6.1-inch model with a “hole more than a notch” that could be launched in 2023.

Some of this is mocked by a previous report from Apple’s trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month. Citing a Kuo supply chain report, 9to5Mac He reported that Kuo is also expecting 5G connectivity to arrive on a model of the iPhone SE 2022. Kuo also said he expected the 2022 model to have a 4.7-inch design, but with an updated processor.

The most interesting of these rumors is that Apple could plan to undo the form factor of the SE to get a bigger screen. It’s unclear if the SE will have the same body size with thinner bezels or if Apple will increase the SE (the latter would be bad news for small hands among us).

Given that it apparently takes more than a year to get a newer iPhone SE, according to reports that they have a new version projected for 2022, there is still a long way to go for SE rumors to generate bubbles around a most powerful and new device. But it looks interesting.
