After a retro in 2016, the OG color “Freshwater” of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 will have to return next year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the model.
Famous for “The Kid” Ken Griffey Jr. in 1996, the Air Griffey Max 1 was an everyday version in the style of the cross heel trainer he wore to the diamond. Wearing a black corrugated nubuck upper with a white leather base, the shoe uses a booty structure and a secure Nike-branded strap that wraps around the ankle. Tying this pair to Griffey’s Seattle Mariners yarns are the aquatic hits of the “Freshwater” shoe that are accented with red.
More recently, the OG “Emerald” color of the Air Griffey Max 1 inspired a new Nike SB Dunk Mid.
So far, no exact date has appeared for this pair, but the arrival of official images of the Nike product suggests that it could fall sooner rather than later. Expect the “freshwater” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 to be released sometime in early 2021.
UPDATE (01/09): Official images of the retro Nike Fresh Griffey Max 1 “FreshWater” have appeared and according to DTLR’s release schedule, the pair is scheduled to return on February 15 for $ 170.
