This year’s Tokyo Game Show will begin on September 30th. Again, due to the pandemic, the the event will not be face-to-face, but only online. And, again, Nintendo won’t show up.

This evening at Japan, Nintendo has tweeted who will not be exhibiting their own games at the Tokyo Game Show 2021 online.

He added that he will cooperate for games independent of other companies. It seems that Nintendo just wanted to manage expectations, especially considering its history with the Tokyo Game Show.

Nintendo usually takes place at the Tokyo Game Show, and as long as it does it’s not uncommon for Nintendo games or even Nintendo hardware to appear indirectly in TGS, yes state the big news was the company itself to apply this year, even online.

How Famitsu points out Nintendo’s involvement at TGS a long time ago has been limited. At the 2001 Tokyo Game Show revealed a title called Game Boy Music for the Game Boy Advance — the game, however, was canceled. The game would eventually become the title of the Nintendo DS Daigasso! Band Brothers, which was launched in 2004.

However, IIn 2005, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata gave the main speech of the Tokyo Game Show. (This was the first big event I tried for Kotaku.) During his speech, Iwata unveiled the Wii-mote for the first time, taking it out of his coat pocket. To this day, it was one of the most electrifying press conferences I have ever attended. There was no loud music either elegant light show, but a guy with some slides and a good idea.

Later that day, when I was interviewing another executive, I saw Mr. Iwata in a hotel lobby. He came, took the prototype of the Wii backpack out of my pocket and handed it to me. It was a really memorable experience.

Yes Nintendo May plan create more of those moments at the Tokyo Game Show, it won’t be this year.
