So far, there hasn’t been much hassle about anything, as the new company of One Plus co-founder Carl Pei has yet to launch any products. But today, Nothing is making a big hit by announcing a founding partnership with Teenage Engineering that will put the Swedish design group at the forefront of Nothing’s future product design.
By partnering with Teenage Engineering, nothing could prepare you to stray from the typical minimalist gadget design: Teenage Engineering has become known for its retro-inspired gadgets from OB-4 radio and its line of pocket synthesizers.
Recently, Teenage Engineering has been expanding its sphere of influence thanks to collaboration with Ikea, but this new partnership with Nothing has the potential to push things even further.
In the Nothing press release, the co-founder and CEO of Teenage Engineering said, “When Carl [Pei] he first spoke to me about the vision of Nothing. I remember being very excited thinking about how this would translate into the design identity of the products. After months of research and development, we are now in a place where I think we will have something exciting to show the world. ”
G / O Media may receive a commission
The challenge for Teenage Engineering will be to channel its distinctive style to devices like wireless headphones, which will be Nothing’s first product when it is released later this summer.
That said, for a company that hasn’t sold anything yet, other than being run by Pei, Nothing has an impressive stable of investors, such as YouTuber Casey Neistat, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, the CEO of Reddit , Steve Huffman, and others. And besides, seconds recent presentations in the UKNothing has been done or owned Essential and all its technology and brand. The startup founded by Andy Rubin closed last year after weak sales Essential PH-1 and other products.
So while it’s hard to say now if anything will turn into something, at least we’ll probably get handsets that look very different from what companies like Apple and Samsung are doing now.
